What’s “SHICHI-GO-SAN”? 七五三とは?

七五三(しちごさん)は、7歳、5歳、3歳の子供の成長を祝う日本の年中行事。
明治改暦以降は新暦の11月15日。現在は11月15日にこだわらず、11月中のいずれかの土・日・祝日に行なうことも多いです。

現在は「七五三」という名称から、その年齢にやる同じ行事に捕らえられ、そうなりつつありますが、正しくはそれぞれの年齢で行う別々の異なった行事です。

数え年3歳(満年齢2歳になる年)「髪置きの儀」とし、主に女の子が行います(男の子が行う例もある)。
江戸時代は、3歳までは髪を剃る習慣があったため、それを終了する儀。

Tsukimi (月見) or Otsukimi literally moon-viewing,refers to Japanese festivals honoring the autumn moon, a version of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Tsukimi traditions include displaying decorations made from Japanese pampas grass (susuki) and eating rice dumplings called Tsukimi dango in order to celebrate the beauty of the moon.
Sweet potatoes are offered to the full moon, while beans or chestnuts are offered to the waxing moon the following month.
